CHARACTER COUNTS NOW MORE THAN EVER WHEN IT COMES TO ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS

by Coach Roz on October 12, 2009

As we speak to players both on our teams as well as the character and values based football camps Playmakers holds across the country, we stress that colleges today are seeking players of great character.  Today it is not enough to be a great player only on the field but programs are looking for student athletes who they can count on year round.

CLASSROOM FIRST

Coaches seek players of character who will first take care of business in the classroom and who can be depended on to represent the institution with class both on and off the field.  With the demands of academic excellence and graduation rates, great institutions look for the student athlete who has demonstrated that they are committed to getting the job done in classroom.

CHARACTER OFF THE FIELD

With programs receiving national exposure and “no secrets” due to today’s media technology, mistakes of character will be broadcast from ESPN to local papers faster than the incident occurred itself.  Programs want values based men and women of character who do the right things off the field.  Second chances are becoming fewer and farther between as coaches and institutions will not tolerate players who embarrass their programs.

COACHING CHARACTER AND VALUES

From youth programs to high schools across the country, more emphasis is being made to stress the importance of character and values. Playmakers offers values and character clinics to coaches, players and parents to bring awareness and tools to make our game better for us all.
